These rolled sugar cookies with powdered sugar glaze are not too sweet and are super cute for your Holiday table. You can decorate them in whatever color you like and go crazy with all kinds of cookie cutters. Versatile, and easy what more could you want from a rolled sugar Cookie.

I started making these cookies around 10 years ago. My good friend Caitlin would often come over and help me cut, roll, and decorate every year. Now I am also making these with my children who mostly like to make a mess and eat then, but fun non the less. There have been lots of memories made over the years with these cookies. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do and can add this to your family's Christmas traditions. Make some memories with food !

until the bottom is nicely browned. I find if they are baked longer they also taste a little sweeter.

- Immediately remove from cookie sheet to cool on a cooling rack.

- Then decorate using using my powdered sugar glaze. See recipe below.

4 Bowls of powdered sugar glaze each a different colour. including green, blue, purple and pink, a spoon in each bowl and the baked cookies in a container beside.. a cooling rack on top of a cookies sheet is beside the bowls ready for the dipped cookies to sit on,
Powdered Sugar Glaze

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • 2 tablespoons margin or butter softened

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 3 to 4 tablespoons milk or half-and-half

- In a medium bowl combine all ingredients until smooth adding milk slowly for desired consistency.

- Separate into separate bowls and add desired food coloring. I prefer to use Wilton's gel food coloring.

- This icing will come out looking shiny and will harden after sitting out for a while.

The method I used to Ice these was just a quick dip on the one side of the cookie into the icing then set out and allow to dry. This is much faster then piping and will leaves a smooth finish.
