Caramel Sauce

This easy caramel sauce recipe requires only 3 ingredients, sugar, butter and cream. This is a decadent, thick and creamy caramel that makes a delicious drizzle on baked goods or on top of ice cream. Melting sugar can be a little temperamental and burn quickly. Read the entire recipe and do not walk away from the pan once you begin.
Caramel Sauce:
Ingredients:
1 Cup Granulated Sugar
6 Tbsp, room temperature unsalted butter, cubed
1/2 Cup room temperature heavy cream
Directions:

Heat sugar in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly. Sugar will begin to clump and then gradually begin to melt. If sugar is browning too quickly remove from heat and allow sugar to continue to melt. Sugar burns quickly so monitor closely.
Once sugar is melted and smooth, remove from heat and add your butter. Stir to combine. The caramel will begin to bubble. The butter and sugar may begin to separate, don't panic, whisk vigorously and watch it come back together. Then Return back to low heat.
Stirring constantly, slowly pour in the heavy cream. This will cause bubbling similar to when the butter was added. Once combined, stop stirring and allow to simmer for 1 minute. Allow to come up to 220F.
Remove from heat and pour into a glass jar. Sauce will thicken as it rests and cools.
Store for up to 1 month in the refrigerator. Microwave to soften.
